What makes the difference?

In order to find out what are the little secrets that make the difference between employers, we asked respondents to choose up to three factors that, in their opinion, the most desirable employer must have.

The majority of respondents (45%) indicated good interpersonal relations, that is, a good atmosphere at the workplace as what attracts them to the most desirable employers. In second place was good treatment by superiors, and this item was chosen by as many as 43% of respondents, while in third place was job security (43%). Among the less important factors are the company's social responsibility, intangible benefits and the opportunity for hierarchical advancement.

Bonuses and flexibility as the most desirable benefits

Of course, we all work primarily for pay, but additional benefits are always welcome. Among the most desirable benefits are: bonuses for outstanding achievements (64%), followed by flexible working hours (51%) and compensation for travel expenses (51%). Among the less popular benefits are covered or subsidized costs of cultural or sports activities, bonus for referrals and subsidizing relaxing activities (wellness massage...).

We often think about quitting

Almost half of respondents (47%) often think about changing employers, while a third (35%) sometimes think about it. Only every fifth respondent (18%) is not thinking about changing jobs at all.

However, respondents who work for their employer of first choice think about changing jobs to a much lesser extent than those who do not work for their employer of first choice. More than half of respondents (54%) who work for their preferred employer do not think about changing their job at all, while only 9% of respondents who do not work for their chosen employer do. More than half of them (55%) often think about changing jobs, compared to only 11% of those who often think about changing jobs and work for their preferred employer.

According to these results, it is not surprising that 48% of respondents are actively looking for a job, while the next third (38%) are not looking for a job, but if the employer contacted them, they would think about it. Only 14% of respondents are not looking for a job at all. Also, those respondents who do not work for their preferred employer (51%) are looking for a job to a greater extent than those who work for their preferred employer (only 17% of them are looking for a job).

About the research:

Research on employers of first choice was conducted by Alma Career Croatia through the MojPosao (www.Moj-Posao.net) portal on a sample of more than 25,000 respondents during the year 2023. The survey is conducted annually for the nineteenth year in a row.

It is important to note that the survey is based solely on the respondents' perception of the companies themselves and their free choice (the names of the companies are NOT offered in advance in the survey). The goal of the research was to find out which, and why, employers on the Croatian labor market are the most attractive to the general public, and to highlight those who have made the most progress.

Respondents were asked to name (in order) their three first-choice employers (ie 'first', 'second' and 'third' choice employers). Points were scored so that the employers of the 'first' choice received 3 points, the 'second' choice 2 points and the 'third' choice 1 point, and based on this, the total order of employers was calculated.
